Platform13 were tasked to create a meaningful hero film for Pinterest’s #ShowYourTrueColours global campaign.
To cut through the pinkwashed noise and add truly value we needed an authentic angle and additional meaningful action, so collaborated with Director, Mollie Mills
“As a queer woman growing up through the internet age of queer-dom, Pinterest became a staple place amidst the community youth to collect images, find LGBTQ+ references, to understand our history, to find other kids who were queer, genderless, non binary, trans, free, cool, creative. Pinterest helped me to find other makers, creatives and queers to expand our sense of who we can be.”
Hand in hand, we cast and filmed real and passionate Pinterest users from and in the UK, US, Canada, Australia, Germany and France to share their stories of how the platform had been instrumental on their journey of self discovery and growth.
As a key part of the project, each cast member was asked to recommend a grassroots organisations or initiative close to their heart for Pinterest to donate to and support.
The 2 minute film, produced in a global pandemic, is a beautiful testament to the power of Pinterest and how instrumental it has been in many different LGBTQIA+ people's journeys to becoming the person they are today.
Complimented with portraits by local photographers from the community, we shared the stories of Auden (US), Zooey (UK), Lowell (CA), Olly (AU), Hank (DE) and Boubou (FR)
